Reflections of an Executive Director

Reflections of an Executive Director

We had a snow day today and CCHS was quiet. In “downtime” moments like today it’s a little easier to slow down and be more retrospective. I began serving this wonderful community in 2013. It’s hard to believe that five years ago me and my family were contemplating a move to Cumberland County. In some ways it feels like I have served as Executive Director of the Historical Society for a lot longer time. Not because of workload or challenges, but because the laundry list of accomplishments that YOU have seen to fruition keeps growing! Truly, it has been staff, Board, committee members, partner organizations and groups, financial backers and history lovers that have made the Society shine. There are decisions I look back on over this past five years and realize a better path of action could have been taken. Yet, I have no regrets and am extremely proud of CCHS. I have learned over the years that often; what matters more than making the “perfect decision” is making an informed decision that will empower and instill confidence and collaboration with as many people as possible. At the end of the day, what truly matters is how we treat each other and how much unity we help instill in our community and in our circles of influence. I’m looking forward to the privilege of living and working alongside staff and CCHS supporters in 2018. Happy New Year everyone!

Jason Illari, Executive Director
