Although a plank bottom chair, with its stick and socket construction, is a Windsor chair, today the general public makes a distinction between a Windsor chair and a plank bottom chair. A Windsor chair is thought of as an undecorated, bow-back chair with spindles and turned legs, while a paint-decorated chair is considered a plank bottom chair. For that reason, the term plank bottom chair will be used interchangeable with Windsor chair throughout the test.
