The Carlisle Indian Industrial School (CIIS) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, became the model for two dozen off-reservation Native American boarding schools in the U.S. and Canada as well as on most Indian reservations.

From 1879 to 1918, over 8,500 students were transported to Pennsylvania to be enrolled in CIIS.

Past conferences have brought workshops, a keynote speaker, and panel discussions to broad regional and national audiences.
