As a community event complementing the War Amongst the People / From Swords to Plowshares exhibition, join us for a free 2-day empowerment experience offered in partnership with the Cumberland County Historical Society. Participants will learn skills that facilitate an awareness of the value of their own experiences, and will gain a sense of empowerment to tell their own personal story. Such skills can help begin a journey of thriving in everyday life. Previous experience as a writer, storyteller, and performer are not necessary.

On Saturday, October 15th at 1:30 p.m., friends, family, and the public are invited to witness the experiences of present-day warriors who have served in the military. Workshop participants will offer a modernized version of rituals that reunite veterans and civilians through a performance of “Reimagining the Storytelling of Ancient Warrior Cultures.”

This empowerment workshop and storytelling ritual embodied by workshop participants is led by two trained military veteran facilitators. Up to 12 local community members are invited to join us. Participants are not required to share their story with the community at the Storytelling ritual. But for those who do there will be a small stipend for those who completes the entire programming. We are looking for military service members, national guard, reserves, veterans, their families, and the support members of veterans and service members.

Apply for a place in the workshop no later than October 7, 2022.

In every struggle there’s a story.
In every triumph, there’s a story.
YOU HAVE A STORY.
Empower yourself,
to write it,
to speak it.
