Carlisle Men in the Glory Regiment

August 23, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

A slide-illustrated presentation by Ted Bainbridge and Janet Bell. Twenty Carlisle men enlisted in the Black infantry regiment made famous in the movie Glory. Learn about society’s attitudes toward black soldiers at that time, why the regiment was formed, and what the unit did in the Civil War. Hear about our men’s backgrounds, war experiences, lives after the war, and their families and descendants.

Janet Bell is a lifelong resident of Carlisle, descended from one of our twenty soldiers, and married to a descendant of another. She has been involved in historical and genealogical research for many years, and has published material in the CCHS’ journal.

Ted Bainbridge, Ph.D. has been a genealogist, teacher, speaker, and writer since 1969. He is a member of the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies Speakers Bureau and speaks often to historical and genealogical societies. His articles are published frequently by a number of societies in the United States and England.
