Carlisle Indian School Outings in Boiling Springs, PA

During the years the Carlisle Indian Industrial School operated in Carlisle (1879-1918), many students, staff and teachers took excursions to Boiling Springs for hikes, picnics and outdoor recreation by the lake. But there was another form of “Outing” happening among Carlisle Indian Industrial School students – in which they were placed in families and on farms as part of their training. Barbara Landis will talk about who these dozens of students were, and whose homes they lived in.
