Part-Time Education Program Assistant (Seasonal)
Location: Cumberland County Historical Society
Schedule: Seasonal: April 13 – July 18, 2026
Classification: Part-time, non-exempt
Hours : 15 hours/week
Pay: $14/hour

Job Summary
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented Part-Time Program Assistant to support our seasonal programming and special events. This role plays a key part in preparing for summer camp, coordinating spring programs, and assisting with a featured Nineteenth Century Baseball match event during Summer Fair.
Candidates must be available to work during History Summer Camp – June 15 – 19, June 22 – 26, and July 13 – 17.
Job Duties
- Assist with planning and daily support for summer camp programming
- Conduct research to support development of educational and recreational programs
- Organize, track, and maintain participant health forms and liability releases
- Ensure all late spring programs are fully prepared and ready for implementation
- Provide logistical and on-site support for a Nineteenth Century Base Ball match event
- Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth execution of programs and events
- Organize education collection and help with inventorying the collection
- Some weekend work required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Experience in event support, youth programming, or administrative assistance preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in various locations and conditions.
- Able to transport educational materials (weighing up to 30 pounds) that may require lifting and carrying.

Depending on your role, we will have a simple form for you to fill out at CCHS once we meet. Volunteers working directly with families and children will need to fill out appropriate federal and state child protection forms.
Internships at CCHS
Local history is replete with events, people, places, and objects that helped shape not only local Cumberland County history but also the history of our state and nation. Understanding and appreciating our past can help us understand the world we live in today. When people walk through the doors at CCHS, they are provided an important link to the past. They encounter artifacts and documents that tell the stories of evolving lives, a changing world, and the ideas and dreams that shaped our country.
Open to all majors, internships at CCHS provide structured learning experiences that contribute to the preservation and sharing of Cumberland County history and heritage. Interns will acquire unique, hands-on professional experience in fields such as research, archival skills, curatorial work, and outreach, along with an understanding of how non-profit organizations operate. A typical internship provides the student with a self-directed project while also being involved in day-to-day operations at CCHS. Projects are determined based on the interests of the student and the needs of the CCHS.

Past interns have researched and written articles for our Journal, created and contributed to exhibits, developed and assisted in programs for students and the public, created finding aids for the collection, organized and cataloged collections and even assisted in History on High the Society’s gift shop or G.B. Stuart History Workshop.
