Carlisle Journeys 2018: Centennial Legacies
Mark your calendars for October 5-6, 2018 for the third in a series of biennial conferences about the Carlisle Indian Industrial School.
The year 2018 marks the centennial of the closing of the Indian Industrial School at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Some of the questions we want to explore are “What were the issues American Indians were identifying in the early 1900’s?” Land reclamation? Citizenship? Self-governance?
We look forward to broad participation by the local community, Dickinson College and area university students and faculty, local high school students, educators and Carlisle Barracks personnel. Events will be held at the Historical Society and Dickinson College. We will issue a call for papers in the hope of drawing from a wide range of experts, academics and descendants of Carlisle Indian School students. Check back for more information as plans develop for our upcoming 2018 conference carrying the themes that moved “Carlisle” from Alma Mater to activism.
Carlisle Journeys is a free conference a we rely on donors and sponsors to make this symposium available at no cost. For more information about the conference, contact CIIS Specialist Barb Landis at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to register for the conference, see below.
