National History Day

National History Day

The Cumberland County Historical Society is thinking about expanding our workshops and programming to help students with their National History Day projects. CCHS staff and volunteers are fortunate to have been NHD judges and we have always enjoyed seeing the work produced by students in Cumberland County, the State of Pennsylvania and around the country.

Beginning in 2017, CCHS decided to collect the projects which advanced to the Region 8 competition at Messiah College that were related to Cumberland County History. Preserving the excellent work done by local students. Now we want to assist students in studying local history as well as helping students learn how to conduct research using primary resources on any topic.

With the 2018 theme “Conflict and Compromise in History” (subject to change), CCHS staff have begun identifying topics that might be of interest to local students. These include the Carlisle Indian School, Pine Grove Furnace (POW Camp, the Environment, Appalachian Trail and Iron Works to the CCC Camp), Daniel Drawbaugh (and his conflict with Alexander Graham Bell over the telephone), and the Shelling of Carlisle to name a few. We want to hear from you. Fill the form below to help us better understand how we can help.
