Mechanicsburg Museum Association Open House
August 19 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Stop by the Open House at the Mechanicsburg Museum Association and explore their remaining train buildings. Visit at 2 W Strawberry Alley, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
The Mechanicsburg Museum welcomes you to their 1867 Passenger Station, the only full passenger station in Mechanicsburg. It was built by the Cumberland Valley Rail Road, and later used by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Inside the former men’s waiting room, including a permanent display of CVRR related artifacts, photos, and models. In the former women’s waiting room, there will have a special display showing more of our CVRR photo collection, including a display of post cards. We will also have a display recognizing Mechanicsburg industries that depended on the CVRR. Docents will be on hand to discuss the display and CVRR history. Reference books will be available for use in the display area.
Docents will be available to lead tours of our 1866 Stationmaster’s House, with furnishings from the late 1800s.
Across the tracks, we welcome visitors to our 1887 Freight House, Mechanicsburg’s second and last. This is now our modern exhibit hall. Our current display is A Tribute To Our Area Firefighters, and features a hand pumped fire engine from Churchtown.
A short distance away is the Washington Street Station, a small sub-station that served the west end of town. Displays can be seen through the windows.
