Founded in 1874, CCHS is one of the country's oldest historical societies. Dedicated to preserving and interpreting county history, the Society maintains a library, museum, photo archives, and education center at its main building at 21 North Pitt Street in Carlisle; a retail shop at 33 West High Street; and historic Two Mile House, located two miles west of the town square, at 1189 Walnut Bottom Road. The continued growth and development of the Historical Society depends on the active participation of many people who share an interest in the rich heritage of Cumberland County. We invite you to join today and help give our past a future.
CCHS membership is open to anyone interested in Cumberland county history. The Society is a private nonprofit organization deriving its support from the communities it serves. The Society also actively seeks materials about Cumberland County, and welcomes donations of appropriate materials pertaining to county history. We highly recommend that donors contact a librarian or curator before bringing in a donation, so that a staff member can properly record and document the article and its history. We will take care of your past.
