The Carlisle Indian Industrial School photo collection at CCHS is one of the largest in the country consisting of over 3,000 images.  It houses photos of individual students, staff, graduating classes and sport teams.  A large part of the collection is the photos the school used for advertisements, documentation, and recruitment purposes. These include images of the school grounds, classrooms, and industrial facilities.  Students were also photographed when they first arrived at Carlisle and then again a few months later wearing anglo style clothes with short, groomed hairstyles.  These images were meant to illustrate the progression of the students into civilization.

For a more detailed description of the Carlisle Indian School photo collection, visit the CCHS photo archive webpage.
